Shall we their fond pageant see?
Lord, what fools these mortals be!
— William Shakespeare

From restrictive and traditional 1950’s American suburbia, A Midsummer Night’s Dream follows four lovers and a group of blue collar workers as they journey through an enchanted forest where the fairies who live there are anything but restrictive and traditional. The show contrasts the clean-cut aesthetic of the 1950’s with the whimsical and maximalist design of the fairy world, which takes loose inspiration from 1910’s Eastern fashions and explores playful expressions of gender and silhouette. As the show progresses, the humans are stripped of their “Athenian” sensibilities by the fairies and must learn about themselves before they can return home changed for the better.
